Zuni artist Victor Lahaleon has has designed this beautiful Polychrome Effigy Frog Canteen. The canteen has two 3 dimensional frogs that are placed on each side of the canteen with small tadpoles clustering around them. While crafting this pot Victor Lahaleon used the traditional techniques such as molding, painting, and firing the pot. This is a great piece of Victors, it is very unique and shows his true talent.
Victor Lahaleon hallmark is displayed on the bottom of the pot.
The Zuni's see the frog as a go-between who can convince the supernatural powers to send rain to water agricultural fields. Many Zuni stepped prayer bowls also have a frog in their center, in the part that is often filled with water. These bowls are often used in agricultural ceremonies intended to bring rain and fertility to the crops.
The Water Serpent is also perceived to be a supernatural power to bring rain and fertility to the crops. He is most often seen with the frog and is also known as the Horned Water Serpent.

Victor Lahaleon
Zuni artist Victor Lahaleon is one of the most well-known artist in the southwest. He is a member of the Crow & Child Turkey Clan and is originally from Zuni. Victor Lahaleon specializes in traditional polychrome effigy bowls, cornmeal bowls with frog effigies, wedding vases, and water serpents. His work is very distinctive and unique. Lahaleon has now been an active artist for over 25 years.
