Irving Toddy
In 1951 Irving Toddy was born as the first son to the famous Navajo Artist, Beatien Yazz.
Toddy attended Utah State University and in 1983 received his bachelors degree in painting and in 1986 received his masters degree in painting. Toddy and many several other painters were known for there realistic paintings and were call the "Gallup Realists," which is very different from traditional Navajo paintings. Toddy is known for working with Acrylics, Oils, Watercolors, Pastels, Ink, and Graphite as well as a variety of other mediums. Toddy enjoys painting the southwest and one of his favorite areas to paint is the Canyon deChelly. He also has been Illustrating children's books with Lenore Keeshig-Tobias "Bird Talk," and Jill Rubalacaba's "Uncegila's Seventh Spot." His paintings were used for the book jacket of "Waterless Mountain" by Laura Adams Armer. Toddy is also the Illustrator of "Canyon Boy" by Avrum Organick, "Cheyenne Again" by Eve Bunting and "Little Women Warrior Who Came Home" by Dzani Yazhi Naazbaa.
Toddy has won Numerous awards and honors, "best of show," at Gallup Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards at the Santa Fe Indian market. You can find Toddy's work in numerous Museums across the country as well in numerous public and private collections.
Today Irving Toddy his wife, Stella and their six children call Arizona their home.
